You can already do this (it's an option in the Rename pages tool). The API does not allow actual deletion of pages, so renaming them to the 'deleted' category is the best I can do.

The difference with the Rename tool is that you need to generate the list of pages yourself. Using a ListPages module on your site you should be able to do this relatively easily, so I'm in no rush to make it as comprehensive as the tagging tool. You just need to make sure each page is on it's own line.

For example, renaming pages with a common parent. Just use this on your site:
