Mac OS X Lion adds support for native applications to resume where they left off when you restart your computer - the same text is in the editor, mouse cursor is in the same location, and if you had any highlighted text, that remains highlighted when you restart the computer. Exactly as you left it.

Unfortunately, this is not supported by Java applications like STE. Therefore I propose adding this to all Operating Systems (Windows included), where you can choose in the settings dialog to enable this functionality.

If activated, when STE closes:

  • You will no longer be asked to save the file before closing the document
  • File contents and highlighted text will be saved to a temporary file, which can be re-launched next time you start STE
