The ability to add Wikidot syntax for formatting was first added in v1.10 of STE.
Bold, Italic, Underline, and Strikethrough
There are two main methods that you can use to add formatting tags to the text area.
Insert at cursor
The easiest way to add formatting is to just click on one of the buttons in the toolbar. In the example shown below, the letter "U" is being clicked to add Wikidot syntax for underlining text.
The program will then automatically enter the correct syntax into the text area for you, as well as some default text!
The default text will be a single word for each of the formatting buttons. This allows you to double-click on the default text to select it automatically, and then to start typing what you would like to replace it with.
Insert using selection
The second way to use these buttons is to apply them to some selected text.
Start off by entering some text into the text area, and then selecting it with your mouse. Once you've done that, click on one of the buttons
The program will automatically enter the correct syntax into the text area for you, with your selected code in the middle.
Future development
In the future we intend to replace the button text with appropriate images that reflect each button's function. For example, a slanted letter "I" for the Italic button and an underlined letter "U" for the Underline button.
Other formatting syntax will also be supported, including headings and div's and span's for CSS.
