That's usually called Find and Replace (or just Find if not replacing with anything). I've edited the title of this page.

I agree, FaR is one of my most-used features of other text editors. There should be some thing in Java designed for this that I can tap into as well, so hopefully it'll be easy to do.

Actually, it might be "Search and Replace". Not sure.

Couldn't find anything in the offline doc's for Java so I didn't get this done. Doing a quick search tonight now that I have Internet access again.

Have looked into this and from what I can tell there's no built-in classes or methods for this that I can find… which is surprising.

It should be easy enough for me to write the code that can do this from scratch (would only take about an hour at most, including testing) the hardest part will be making all of the components in the dialog box line up properly… as a dialog box would be needed for the GUI part of this. Overall it would probably take 2-3 hours.

So whilst it's not too long, I'll put this off for a bit and focus on some other things - like keyboard shortcuts for saving - which keep annoying me every time I use STE (and so I'm guessing those things annoy others as well).

I've added a 'find' feature in version 3. You can manually replace the text yourself for every match it finds if you want.

In a future version I'll include a proper find-and-replace option.

TODO:

• "Match case" checkbox (current: always matches case exactly)
• "Wrap around" checkbox (current: disabled, when reaching bottom of document it stops searching)
• Replace with another word (current: not possible)

As "Find" / Search is working, and you can manually replace the text that way, there is an easy work around for this.

So whilst I definitely want to add the feature, I'm going to remove the 'Accepted' status, and work on other wishes first. This will be completed eventually (possibly v4.00)
