From some reading I've been doing recently, I think this might in fact be possible - but won't be implemented for a while.

It's possible to do it manually - but you may need to ask Bryce for help with that. Hopefully this will help figure it out as I'm not sure how to do it on Mac OS X:

On Ubuntu (linux) if I drag STE.jar to the taskbar/panel, and then open the properties for that shortcut, I get this:

ubuntu-create-launcher.png

Clicking on the icon allows me to change the icon used by the shortcut. Try using this one: http://editor.wdfiles.com/local--files/license/STE-logo.gif

I'm hoping that Mac OS X allows you to set it up that easily.

If you could add instructions to this page for Mac OS X (once you figure it out) I'd appreciate it… Adding STE to a taskbar or panel - or even better, on the new wiki (as I'll be deleting the current documentation after it's all moved across)

Edit: Have rated it up, but won't mark as accepted until I'm 100% sure that it's possible to do this automatically.

Hey Shane, in Mac OSs, the icon sizes are as big as 512 square pixels. That icon above scales up a bit too pixelised for my liking, would it be possible to produce a Mac-friendly icon?

Also, there is a similar function in Mac OSX as the function in Ubuntu… however, it doesn't change the app icon when in the dock. Anyways, I'll upload some instructions to this thread for you.

I'll look at creating a larger icon, sure.

And thanks.

Steps for customising the STE.jar icon:

  1. Go to this image and copy it to the clipboard
  2. Select the “STE.jar” file with the Finder application, and press command+I (or “Get Info” from the right-click context menu)
  3. Click on the default icon in the Info window, and paste the image from the clipboard with command+V (or “Paste” from the edit menu)

If you like, you can drag the application to the dock, and a shortcut will automatically remain there.

Feel free to simplify the steps/images or whatever. I just did them in extraordinary detail for fun :)

Going to use your steps for now James to keep my sanity… as I had the STE logo on Windows I want it on Mac too xD

But… aiming to make it work by default for Mac next release. Bookmarked some interesting pages in Chrome that seem to indicate a few ways to do it - not quite as easy as changing the app name or adding the menu bar to the top of the screen though (both of those changes were done using one line of code, literally the hardest part was putting the line in the right place).

So .. "maybe" in 3.32

Edit: To clarify… I could use 'Jar Bundler' to get an icon working easily, but am currently looking at a way to do it directly in the code. Being able to set the icon in the code would (hopefully) then allow me to change it during runtime (e.g. to show progress of importing a page, downloading a file, or installing an update).

Here James, new logo: http://editor.wdfiles.com/local--files/license/STE-logo-v2.png

I like how simple it is, but if you prefer the old one let me know.
